Getting Your Board Started with Cureo

As a non-profit organization, you have many hats to wear --- Providing services against your mission, raising funds to support it, spreading the word about your good works.  Let’s not forget the mundane record-keeping, compliance, and operational areas.
Good governance, strong boards, and committees go a long way to supporting you and the organization’s mission.  Cureo helps you harness their creativity.
Cureo Helps:
  1. Organize your Board
  2. Curate and distribute your board communications
  3. Store, and make available important documents
  4. Plan, schedule meetings and track attendance
  5. Delegate responsibilities to members and staff
  6. Smooth the transition process as board members join and leave
  7. Assess engagement
  8. Keep your board focused on the mission
To get started, set up a new Group for your board. If you are not an organization administrator, you'll need to ask yours to create the Group for you. They can make you an administrator of the channel.
Before we get into the ongoing management, there are some important steps that should be completed.
Load Historical Files
From your Board Group, click Files tab. Create folders to house important documents that the Board should be able to view.

Some examples are:
  1. Governance - Inside this folder, put documents related to the board governance, and your organization.  These might include:
    1. Code of Conduct / Expectations of the Board
    2. Fiscal Policy(s)
    3. Confidentiality
    4. Articles of Incorporation / Operating Agreement
    5. Board Membership & Terms & Expirations
    6. Financials - Inside this folder, you may want to create folders for each fiscal year to help keep the documents organized.  Within those folders should be financial projections, budgets, and reports that have been supplied to the board.
  2. Financials - Inside this folder, you may want to create folders for each fiscal year to help keep the documents organized.  Within those folders should be financial projections, budgets, and reports that have been supplied to the board.
    1. In being fully transparent with the board, you should upload the last several years of financial information.
    2. You may also want to include any 990  Filings  or other tax documents that your board has responsibilities for
  3. Any other folders that are useful/required based on how your board operates

Introduce it to your board

Now that you have loaded your important documents, the next step should be to introduce it to your Board. It's always a good idea to let them know this is coming before you invite them in. This helps to reduce any potential anxiety and confusion. It also ensures they know to expect an invitation to the system so that they don't just ignore it when it arrives.

If you have a meeting upcoming, you can set aside a few minutes to introduce it in person. You can use THIS PRESENTATION to help you with the introduction. If you don't have a meeting upcoming, but want to go ahead and get going, we recommend you send an email prior to sending the Cureo invitations using similar introductory language to the presentation.

Now you are ready to invite your board and move on to the ongoing management!
